Brown, T., Gatmaitan, M., & Harjusola-Webb, S. (2011). The effects of a performance feedback on a paraprofessional’s use of naturalistic communication strategies in a preschool classroom. Manuscript in preparation.
This manuscript describes a study examining the effect of ongoing performance feedback on paraprofessionals' use of naturalistic communication strategies. The study was conducted using a single-case design to examine the change in a single paraprofessional’s teaching practices as a result of an intervention. The intervention was in the form of a two-component training, including a professional development instruction and series of performance feedback sessions. Results of the study showed a functional relationship between ongoing performance feedback and paraprofessional use of naturalistic communication strategies. My contributions to the study included, gaining IRB approval, recruiting participants and gaining informed consent, providing the intervention to participants, assisting with data analysis, creating the graphs, and co-authoring the manuscript including the review of literature.
Gatmaitan, M., & Brown, T. (2012). Comparison of family-centered practices in Individualized Family Service Plans. Manuscript submitted for publication.
This manuscript describes a study examining IFSP quality in two counties in Ohio. IFSP samples were collected from two counties, one which used the Routines Based Interview (McWilliam, 1992) as a way to gather information from families and the other which used traditional methods of assessment. The IFSP sample was analyzed for quality using the IFSP Rating Scale (Jung & McWilliam, 2010). My contributions to the study included coding the entire data set, assisting with data analysis, and serving as editor on the final manuscript.
Hubbell, S., Brown, T., & Winchell, B. (2012). An examination of the evidence behind commonly used assessments. . Manuscript in preparation.
This literature review and analysis identified the currently available evidence base for ten commonly-used assessments in early childhood and early childhood special education settings. The results indicated inadequate research on the technical adequacy and utility of most of the assessments reviewed. My contributions to the study included establishing inclusionary and exclusionary criteria, conducting the literature review along with the lead author, and co-authoring the final manuscript.
